The RTA Pickleball Tour has officially declared 2025 a year of “fast-forward” growth, driven not just by player participation but by a massive backend overhaul. In a strategic review of the year, the Tour highlighted its partnership with the software platform Tournated as the critical “digital backbone” that has allowed them to professionalise the sport’s infrastructure across Europe.
Hit it deeper!
As the sport of pickleball accelerates across the continent, the logistical demands on tournament organisers have skyrocketed. RTA leadership acknowledged that the surge in interest brought complexity: more formats, larger draws, and higher expectations from players who demand a professional experience. To meet this challenge, the organisation focused on the “invisible engine”—the technological framework that powers leagues, rankings, and live data.
The partnership with Tournated was described as a defining step for the tour in 2025. While acknowledging that no IT migration is without its hurdles—citing the reality that “edge cases appear when real people start using real systems at scale”—the RTA praised Tournated’s ability to evolve the platform in real-time. By December 31, 2025, the system had undergone a radical transformation from its state at the beginning of the year, resulting in cleaner workflows and enhanced flexibility for organizers.
A prime example of this technology in action was the newly launched Amateur TEAM Event at the Arlberg Pickleball Championship. This format required a sophisticated tracking system to handle “encounters” consisting of three matches, each played as a Best of 3 sets. The Tournated platform successfully managed this complexity, syncing sets, matches, and overall encounter points into a live interface. This allowed fans and players to view the Order of Play, live standings, and real-time match updates via the web and app, bringing a level of clarity and professional polish previously unseen in amateur European events.
Looking toward 2026, the RTA and Tournated have already outlined a roadmap for further innovation. The focus remains on creating a system that is “flexible enough to support innovation, robust enough to scale, and transparent enough to keep players, fans, and organisers aligned”.
The World Pickleball Verdict
The digitisation of the RTA Tour signals a pivotal maturation point for European pickleball. In the early days of any sport, spreadsheets and whiteboards often suffice, but for a tour aiming to broadcast live streams and manage complex team formats, a robust digital ecosystem is non-negotiable.
By investing in the “invisible engine,” the RTA is doing more than just scheduling matches; they are building a data-rich history of the sport. The success of the Amateur TEAM Event integration proves that amateur players are hungry for the same statistical depth and “live” feeling that professionals enjoy. If the 2026 roadmap delivers on its promises, the RTA could set the standard for how regional tours globally manage the intersection of technology and competition, ensuring the sport remains scalable as it inevitably explodes in popularity.
